The Smith Family pt. 1

Jenny was really impressed with Pollination Technician when she saw him first, although at the time of this account she couldn't really tell why anymore.
He was so different from the others.

Soon they got married. Then, it was what you used to do when you met someone you liked.

Jenny wanted a family more than anything else and PT gave her the children she dreamed of having. He seemed to possess a natural ability to get her pregnant, but thinking back Jenny wondered if he was equally qualified to bring them up. Although he was family orientated like her and loved his children, he showed very little concern about their education and Johnny and Jill grew up knowing very little. Even if this was partly her own fault, she would have wished to have someone by her side who made up for her lack of determination when it came to the children. Overall they were a happy family though.

Johnny grew into a teen and when Ophelia Nigmos, Olive Specter's niece, moved to Strangetown after the death of her parents, he started to go out with her.
Things weren't easy for Johnny in the beginning. He had found a friend in Ripp Grunt, but the other Grunts he detested, especially Tank. Their father, General Grunt, hated his father and was very suspicious of aliens - including half-aliens - in general. Tank was trying to please him and equally narrow-minded. He always insulted and provoked him when they met and Johnny was planning to pay him back one day and fight him.
Going out with Ophelia made everything better. They were usually meeting after school and she was the first girl he kissed.

And then everything became totally different. Since he had not been unhappy with the way things were before, Johnny could not exactly tell what it was. Some differences were small, like better haircuts (what was he thinking when he got the last one?), other changes were more drastic. Looking at himself in the mirror, he felt that the most important of all had happened not on the outside, but inside himself and everybody else.
He and his mother had already talked about buying a birthday cake and arranging a party. He was only one short step away from becoming an adult and starting a life with Ophelia. And suddenly it moved back into the distance when he realised that they still had a lot to find out being teenagers.

The first time he met Ophelia after all this began he became aware of the depth of the changes. The new sensations connected with it made kissing her a completely new experience. The concept of desire had not played a great part in their relationship so far and the effect the kiss had in the area of his groin was a bit confusing but very nice too.

They were hugging and kissing a lot that day and a few times Johnny regretted that his bedroom was so small or he could have suggested to go upstairs and maybe... It was really not like before, these things had never gone through his mind until recently.
He was surprised that his mother did not seem to notice the difference. She had not wondered when he postponed his birthday either and he guessed that she would accept that he was planning to go to college now just as naturally. Maybe she was affected as much as him, because it was another striking feature of the changes which had taken place that they appeared so natural and actually made you wonder why it had been different before.

Jenny had gone out to Desert City in the afternoon. Although Johnny and Ophelia were at home to look after Jill she had rather wanted to go alone than with PT.
Like her son she had noticed that she was feeling different from before and somehow taking her husband along had not appealed to her. It was not that she was seeking other men, she simply had not liked the idea of his company.
She met all her brothers in the new bar that had opened in Desert City recently (which had not even really been a town a short time ago), but got into talking to General Grunt. It was astounding because it happened almost never, he was still a teen when they had exchanged the last words. Although he usually treated her with indifference, Jenny felt that he disliked her for bringing PT (and his offspring) into the neighbourhood. That he suddenly acted so friendly towards her was even more surprising.

Actually they had a very pleasant evening and Jenny began to wonder if she had misjudged General Grunt's opinion of her and if he might actully be attracted to her (she was not such a different type from his former wife).

She also talked to Pascal for a while. She could imagine how hard it was for a man to adapt to a pregnancy and Pascal being so serious anyway, there were many thoughts going through his head with regard to the baby he was going to have. Jenny believed that he would make a good father though and she liked the idea that she would soon have a niece or a nephew. She realised that an alien impregnation was the only way she had once been able to imagine for this to happen while it did not seem so impossible now that one of her brothers might actually find a girlfriend. With such developments even the most insensitive sim could not ignore the changes in town.
Everyone was still the same and yet completely different. Socialising with others was different. She had another conversation with Buzz Grunt and noticed how much more relaxed he appeared. He was friendly, he smiled and was much less paranoid than he was said to be.
She felt that he really wasn't such a bad guy after all.

Before she left she saw him talking to Lola Singles and it looked like it was him who had approached her. General Grunt talking to a half alien - nothing she would have expected until recently.

Jenny was aware that her own personality and feelings were affected too (some of it she did not like to admit to herself) and while she welcomed what was happening now, it saddened her when she realised how shallow her previous relationships - even with her family - had been. They had been living side by side without being truly close.

This was true for PT too. Regarding him Jenny almost regretted that it was not like it used to be. She had wanted another child and they had planned to try for it after Johnny had grown up. The day after she had visited Desert City was her day off and when the children were at school she and PT went into the bedroom.
They became more passionate than before, but while it should have corresponded to the growing passion and the increased desire she felt, it made her uncomfortable. She was very fond of PT, she loved him, didn't she? And at the same time she was slightly repelled by him. It was not his appearance in general, it was the way he went around in the house. He was the only one who appeared more detached and withdrawn than before.

The internal conflict occupied her mind more and more. She really wanted another baby, but when she thought about woohooing with PT she was not sure if she wanted to do it again.

Everything had been so much easier in the old days. She tried to find reasons in the lack of parenting PT had shown in the past and his withdrawal from her and his children, but if she was completely honest with herself she had to admit that the lack of physical attraction also played a role.
Even if PT had lost none of his physical strength (of which Buzz Grunt had once gotten a taste), he looked like he had shrunk, walking around in a slouch, looking old and tired. None of this used to matter, you liked someone, got married, had children - love was a feeling of enhanced friendship. Yes, everything had been so much easier before she experienced these new sensations and the silly ideas which were going through her head at times now. She was convinced that Buzz Grunt had given her the once-over a few times the other evening.

Meanwhile Johnny had no worries whatsoever. His grades - as well as Jill's - were steadily improving and everyone being generally more relaxed he did not get strange looks for his skin anymore.

The main reason for his splendid mood was his visit to Ophelia's place two nights ago though. It was around ten o'clock when she called and he was surprised that she wanted him to come over so late. She told him that her aunt had miraculously rejuvenated, but he soon gathered that this was not the reason for her invitation. Usually he was more outgoing than she was, on this occasion she was very open though, telling him that she was thinking about him all the time and that she wanted to have him near her.

Ripp had become a close friend and when he told him in school only shortly before that he had been out on a date with a girl from Desert City and had slept with her the next evening, Johnny did not think he was lying. They had begun to talk about it almost instantly. Neither him or his schoolmates had ever considered to have sex at this age, but, they concluded in their discussions, if their thinking had changed in this regard, wouldn't it be strange if their ability had not?
All this was theoretical though. Lying in bed with Ophelia (and getting to see the parts of her he had been curious about) was real and nothing was further from his mind than proving a theory. Teenage life - how it used to be - appeared very dull, the way it was now on the other hand made Johnny think that there was no harm in extending it for a little bit longer.

Making love to Ophelia left him confused at first, but already on his way out it was replaced by a pleasant state of general well being and satisfaction. They had done it - there was the feeling in his groin again, like when he kissed her only stronger and his cock had grown and hardened; then he was inside her and felt her reaction when he began to move.. he hoped they would do it again soon.

Strangetown was tiny and even with Desert City adding a number of new faces the choice of sims of the same age group remained limited. Nonetheless Johnny never had a wish to make friends with Tank.
Lately he had met him a few times in town though and it had changed his opinion of him quite a lot. It had never occured to him that Tank might be under a lot of pressure trying to fulfil the expectations of his father since his own - PT - was a very different sim.
Anyway, he looked a lot happier (and had ridded himself of the stupid camouflage paint on his face) and was much friendlier than before. He actually enjoyed talking to him and was surprised to discover that they were not that different in many respects.

He and Ripp talked about it later and he said that the atmosphere at their home had changed immensely. He and his father got on a lot better and Tank was hardly recognisable.
'I never hated him, he is my brother, but man, he could really piss me off. Sometimes I had to bear my Dad bugging me about straightening out my life, bla bla, only to have my brother coming up to me five minutes later bugging me about the same things. He could be like Dad's puppet. When you look at him now it is like a heavy chain has fallen off him and it feels really good to see him like that. He could be a blockhead, but he was never a bad person.'
'It really shows that you are happier too. Things must be very different at home now.'
Strangetown was tiny, but with close friends there it was really not such a bad place.

Jill improved in school and brought back an A+ one day. Apart from that her life was not much different from before. Sometimes when Jenny looked at her, she had the impression that she did not know her children very well at all. It wasn't only education where she and PT had lacked. They were on friendly terms with them, but there wasn't the closeness one would expect of someone who cared as much about family as they did.

Johnny initially complained when his mother suddenly began to show such a great interest in his learning, but in the end he appreciated that her help made it easier for him.

When she was finished teaching him to study she insisted that her Dad would do the same for Jill.

When he brought home his first A+ shortly after it was probably the first time that Johnny noticed the frailty in his father. First he cheered him but then stopped and fell back into a slouched position. He suddenly looked very old and tired. He had become very quiet lately too although Johnny wasn't sure if it was voluntary. At times his father would be standing next to him, expectant and smiling, but he was usually busy, on his way to meet friends or in the company of Ophelia.

His condition seem to worsen when he was struck by lightning while he was out in Desert City one day. Even though it was still summer, he had begun to wear a long sleeved turtleneck jumper as if he was cold all the time.
Nobody in the family talked about it, but Johnny thought that his mother had to be aware that Dad was becoming more and more ghostly every day.

Maybe it was to some extent what was driving her out of the house because Jenny went into town a lot more than she used to. Some evenings she was planning to stay at home with PT and the children but then changed her mind and paid a short visit to a cafe or a bar.
It was more likely the excitement she gained from these outings. So many new sims were appearing out of nowhere and among them quite a few very attractive men.

She could honestly say that she did not seek or provoke it, but at the same time it was impossible to deny that she liked the attention that she was getting from men other than her husband.

But it was mainly the new atmosphere in town. Everyone seemed to be affected by it. Strangetown had never been what one generally considered a nice and peaceful place and some of the bars which had opened in Desert City were not exactly suitable for a family outing.
Nevertheless everyone appeared more easygoing and generally a little bit brighter. Jenny watched General Grunt disappearing into a photobooth with his girlfriend (??) and they definitely did not take any pictures when they were in there. He was casually dressed in jeans and a t-shirt and looked very happy.
She had chosen to visit the new bar in Desert City before going home since it was only early evening. Seeing the neighbours doing things you would have never imagined had a strange appeal and she could not turn away from it and leave.

So Jenny stayed on and came across Korey Shankel again, who she had met earlier at the cafe. He was VERY attractive and he did not hide that he liked her.

They spent the whole night together, drinking more coffee and talking. He listened to her with interest and she really liked that, but she could not help throwing a few glances at his body too.

It was a wild night. The bar served some very strong beer and Lazlo had obviously been drinking a little bit too much of it. He had always been the outgoing one of her brothers but until tonight had never felt the need to strip and sing karaoke afterwards.

Jenny only drank one glass but she could feel it. 'I think I have to lie down for a moment', she whispered to Korey, 'this place has a bedroom upstairs, hasn't it?'

Maybe she should have known that this could be misunderstood and Korey followed her shortly after and joined her on the bed.

She did not even try to stop him by telling him that she was married (he must have seen the ring anyway). Her longing had grown day by day and turned into a constant stir, while she had not been able to come to a decision if she wanted to woohoo with PT.
It was not right what she and Korey had done, but it satisfied the wants she had kept inside her.

She had been out the whole night and cheated on her husband, but instead of feeling guilty she stayed on for a bit longer, enjoying Korey's company before returning home.

Maybe she would have acted differently had she foreseen what happened soon afterwards. Johnny had made a few remarks, but none of them could really believe that the time for PT was up.

Johnny had almost expected that his father would resign to death quietly, but PT himself could not believe that the Grim Reaper had come to harvest him. He debated and then he pleaded, but the Reaper was not known for mercy.

And he took PT away, leaving Jenny and the children behind.

Jenny did not understand what had happened at first, but when the awareness of PT's death trickled through into her consciousness it was too much to bear.

She just cracked. Only a few days ago (shortly after her woohoo with Korey), she had resolved that she would overcome her reservation towards PT and try to have the baby she wanted so much. Maybe it lacked passion but she did love him. She could not believe that he was gone. She had always known that it would happen one day - far far away in the future - and she had always feared it.

Johnny looked at his mother. 'Mom, are you alright?'
Jenny just stared at him. Johnny did not feel that she had comprehended. She needed professional help.

It arrived in the form of a psychiatrist, who carefully examined Jenny. At this moment she did not grasp much of what was going on around her. Suddenly this strange man stood in the living room, viewing her from all angles and muttering to himself.

'Tell me how many fingers do you see here?'
'What?' Jenny giggled. What a funny looking man.
'Post mortal breakdown. Always the same story. Well my dear, you have dropped into a deep hole but I will rescue you. We can not let your children grow up without father and mother.'

He unpacked some strange instruments and for the next few hours Jenny had to look at moving discs, got hypnotised, was questioned and cheered.

'I can not heal you in a day and you will still feel bad in the near future. Do you think you are ready to handle this?'
Jenny wasn't too convinced herself when she assured him that she was.

The psychiatrist told her that PT had taken up an insurance for his family and when Jenny heard about the amount she was happy for a moment.

It did not last long and soon she was thinking about PT again. It would take time before she was able to accept that he was gone forever.

Jill was the one who had been closest to her Dad and she was crying all night.

Jenny felt that she should have been there to comfort Jill, but she was not up to it, needing someone to comfort her herself. She called Korey and told him what had happened.
'It might look inappropriate but I am afraid to be alone tonight. Would you come over and see me?'

He stayed by her side the whole night, even when she got a few more hysterical fits.

Hugging and lifting her up when she needed it. She was glad that she met him and that she did not have to go through this alone.

The children did not blame her for bringing a stranger over on the day of PT's death. They seemed to like Korey and he was listening to them with the same genuine interest that he had shown towards her. He had a high position in politics and knew how to talk. She and Johnny had grown closer lately, but Jenny felt that Korey helped her to communicate with her son.

It was him who suggested to stay for the night, but he did not put her under pressure to sleep with him. She wanted it even if it was morally objectionable. Her husband had still slept in that bed only the night before. It wasn't motivated by lust though, she felt so sad and alone and it comforted her to feel the body of another sim close to her. He was very tender and maybe he guessed that it was not the action of a stone-hearted woman, who went from one man to the next without a blink.

It was almost disturbing because when she curled up to go to sleep and he moved closer and rested his body against hers, she felt a stronger intimacy than she ever had with PT. She was so weak and sore from crying and his gentle touch was soothing.
