The Specter Family pt. 1

Olive was a family sim but she wasn't allowed to live a happy family life. Her first husband was rich and owned the local funeral institute. Shortly after their marriage he shared the fate of his customers and passed away leaving Olive a virgin widow.

Her second husband died on their honeymoon. Although he was already an elder his death was unexpected and Olive became suspicious that those grievances weren't happening by chance. This turned out to be true as she found out when the grim reaper arrived to take away Hugh. He wanted Olive (and he wasn't one you resisted) and he did not forbear a marriage to another man. When Olive gave birth to a child it wasn't from her husband.

She was heartbroken when the social services took Nervous away and tried several times to get the custody back and save him from the Beakers, who treated him much worse than she would have ever done. Finally she found love again with Ichabod Specter and she hoped that the Reaper had lost interest in her by then. She was already of mature age at that time and believed that he had fancied her for her looks when she was a young woman. But she was wrong in her judgement and Ichabod died instantly after their wedding. After this Olive decided that she would spend the rest of her life alone.

Her husbands were not the only ones who found an untimely death. Her sister and her husband both died in an accident and their teenage daughter Ophelia moved in with her aunt afterwards. While Olive was glad that she was not on her own as she had envisaged her relationship with Ophelia wasn't too good. Olive had very little experience with children and found it difficult to set rules for a teenage girl, which resulted in quite a few arguments between her and Ophelia.

Ophelia was depressed because of the death of her parents and she didn't like living with her aunt. But it also meant that she went to a new school and this at least was a positive aspect of moving to Strangetown. In school she met Johnny Smith and she liked him right from the start. He was the first alien she ever met and she thought that he looked extremely cool. He was very nice too. It didn't take long before they were going out with each other.

Then Johnny asked her to go steady and she got her very first kiss from him. She did not argue with her aunt much anymore, mainly because she spent most afternoons over at Johnny's house. She liked it there. It was the only green place in the entire neighbourhood (Ophelia believed that it was somehow connected to Pollination Tech), not as dark and grim as her aunt's place.

Johnny was close to grow into an adult and so was she, but then - virtually from one day to the other - everything changed. They both realised that they weren't ready to grow up yet. They suddenly had the opportunity to go to college. Places opened in Desert City and changed the whole concept of dates. Cats and dogs were running around on the streets. It was the spring of a new era and everyone looked better and was happier. So were Ophelia and Johnny. While she had cut her hair, but kept most of her style, Johnny also got a new set of clothes and Ophelia thought that he looked greater than ever.

Another side effect they noticed almost straight away was a growing passion and a whole assortment of feelings which they had never experienced before. Jenny was unaware of this. To her Ophelia and Johnny looked as innocent as before and she was happy to see them together. She had worried that Johnny might find it hard to be accepted by others and was glad that his skin colour had not stopped him from finding a really nice girlfriend.

One evening only a few days later Olive was sitting at home thinking to herself. She was tired and worn and had planned to retire. After her affair with the Grim Reaper he had given her an hourglass as a present and told her that she was allowed to choose how long she wanted to live. Time did not matter to him and he could wait until they were united. His present was to show her what she meant to him, but for a long time, suffering his jealousy and seeing one sim after the other go, Olive had no wish to make use of it. She was glad for this life which had been so full of sadness to end. But now that she was approaching it, a wave of excitement and anticipation rolled over Strangetown and she was seeing things differently.

She and Nervous had gotten in contact and close again and she thought that it would be nice to have another chance to bring up a child. Nervous was not a very well adapted sim, which was not surprising considering his strange origin and the mistreatment by the Beakers. But he was also special and unique.
While she was in town Olive noticed the easygoing atmosphere in Desert City. She felt more light hearted herself, more than ever before.

She got up and looked at the hourglass, then she picked it up, turned it and set it back onto the floor. When the Grim Reaper came for Ichabod she had cried and asked him what he wanted of an old woman like her. He would surely find a younger and more attractive given his power and stature.
The Grim Reaper had laughed and then said: 'Do you believe that my power is restricted to bringing death? Or giving back life? If I fancied you to be young again, I made you so. I see you have not discovered the secret of my present yet.'
Olive knew that it was a great risk to start all over again and try to have a family, but somehow she had the hope that her destiny was fulfilled and that by using the present of the Reaper he would give her the chance to live the life he had withheld from her in the past.
'I know that you can hear me, I'm claiming my present. If you can do it make me young again, let me have a new life', she exclaimed into the empty room. For a moment nothing happened and Olive started to feel rather silly.

But then sparkling lights appeared in the room flying towards her to form a circle of colours. Her body began to swirl and Olive felt how the lights were lifting her up.

Afterwards she realised that she had not believed it would work. She was a young woman again. It was a miracle.

Ophelia had watched the reversed age transition, but although she was impressed, so many strange things were happening lately that she hardly wondered about anything anymore. So while her aunt was checking her wardrobe for better clothes, Ophelia was making her own explorations. There were reports about other far off places, but she wouldn't have needed them to understand that teenagers had new opportunities now.

Johnny was surprised when Ophelia invited him so late in the evening, but after he understood what she was suggesting he was out of the door like a shot and rushed over to her place, making the way in record time.

Olive, who had planned to go to town with her niece had already called for transport, but suddenly Ophelia had disappeared and she told the taxi driver to leave. It didn't occur to her to check in her bedroom. She had not seen Johnny arriving and there was nothing in there apart from the bed and the wardrobe. Ophelia would not have a reason to be in there.
Actually, Ophelia had a very good reason to be in her aunt's bedroom and he was green and lying next to her.

It was all true. Like Ripp Grunt shortly before them, Ophelia and Johnny discovered by personal experience that teen woohoo was possible. Ophelia thought that it was a good thing that you did not have to become an adult to do this anymore, even if it did not make a difference with regard to her and Johnny. Being teenagers for longer and going to university would delay it, but not change that she and Johnny would live together one day.

Johnny had to leave afterwards, because it was late at night by then and he didn't want his parents to worry about him. He was still confused when he walked out of the room. He had anticipated that he and Ophelia would grow up and get married before this happened and for a moment he didn't know what to think.

But then it had been too good to wait for it for so much longer and he realised that it was stupid to worry about it simply because it had not happened the way he had expected it.

It was late but neither Ophelia (who reappeared out of nowhere much to Olive's surprise) nor Olive were tired, so Olive suggested the trip to town she had planned earlier.
Everyone was very surprised to see her being young again (most sims did not recognise her until she talked to them). Nervous found it strange that his mother was suddenly only marginally older than himself.

General Grunt only realised who she was when she told him. He used to dislike Olive, blaming her for Lyla's early death, but he was also the one who had probably changed the most and she had a pleasant conversation with him, even if he still seemed a bit wary of her.

After her rejuvenation she went to town more often and one evening she met Pascal Curious. She hardly knew him but he was one of the few friends of her son and she already appreciated him for that. There was much more between them though.
She was convinced that he noticed it too. Their conversation immediately went into a flow and the whole time they were smiling at each other while the glances they exchanged went much deeper than the topics they talked about. He had a little alien daughter and his face was shining when he told her about Estella, as she was called. She could not forget Pascal, but for some time she did not see him again and they did not get acquainted enough to call him.

She felt overall much happier but for a while her life remained as quiet as it had been before. There were a few developments around her and Nervous getting together with Circe Beaker was one of them. When she heard it first - from her son - she found it hard to understand and suspected that Circe was planning another devious scheme for Nervous. But Circe broke up with Loki, she and Nervous were about to become parents and Olive began to accept that she might have true feelings for him. He was very happy and when she talked to him on the phone she became aware how much it helped him to grow up and follow his body into adulthood.

Ophelia and Johnny continued to spend a lot of time together, only that they were meeting in town more often now. Johnny did not talk about it but there was something that made him uncomfortable about his family.

She still did not get to know many of the townie teens, but she got better acquainted to Ripp and Tank Grunt. It had been okay to mix with Ripp, with regard to Tank, Johnny once would have taken it as a breach of loyalty if she had talked to him. Johnny and Tank were getting on well now and she was glad that she did not have to worry about it anymore with so few others of her age around. Tank was really a nice boy and quite attractive too she had to admit. People in town said that his father had changed the most during the awakening of Strangetown, but they could have said the same about Tank.

She and Johnny did not make love again until he invited her over the day after his father died. She would have imagined that he was too sad for company but he said that he had already wished her to be there the night before. It showed how strong their relationship was. If she had known Johnny when her parents died, she would have wanted to turn to him too.

Over time her aspiration had turned from knowledge to popularity and they were closer than ever. They were old enough to go to college anytime they wanted and definitely not too young for true love.
